Beginning July 1, 2012, secondary metals recyclers in Chatham County who purchased regulated metal property must register annually with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

The new state law will require each sheriff’s office in the state to register secondary metals recyclers doing business in the county, keep a record of each registration and enter the registration information into a statewide data base searchable by all law enforcement agencies.

This is intended to curb the rising incidence of metal theft. 

Businesses and individuals can obtain a copy of the Secondary Metals Recycler Registration form online by downloading it the link below, or by visiting the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 1050 Carl Griffin Drive, Savannah, GA  31405.  There is a $200 annual registration fee.
